About Regional Science Centre, Coimbatore

The Regional Science Centre, Coimbatore is run under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre (TNSTC), whose mandate is to design, develop and fabricate science and technology exhibits, prototype demonstration equipment, and scientific teaching aids to further science education across the state.

Developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) with active support from TNSTC, Government of Tamil Nadu, the Centre was formally dedicated to the people of Tamil Nadu on 13 July 2013, by Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch, then Hon’ble Union Minister of Culture, Government of India, in the presence of Dr. R.C. Sobti (Chairman, Governing Body, NCSM) and Shri P.R. Natarajan (Hon’ble MP, Coimbatore).

With a built-up area of 4,000 sq. mtr., the Centre houses three permanent galleries — Hall of Textile, How Things Work, and Fun Science — along with a temporary exhibition hall. Visitor facilities include a 3D film show, an Inflatable/Fulldome Digital Planetarium, an air-conditioned auditorium with audio-visual equipment, a Science Demonstration corner, a Children’s Activity corner, a library, a telescope for sky observation, and other public amenities — making it a full day-out destination for students, families and science enthusiasts in Coimbatore.

மண்டல அறிவியல் மையம், கோயம்புத்தூர் தமிழ்நாடு அறிவியல் தொழில்நுட்ப மையத்தின் (TNSTC) மேற்பார்வையில் இயங்கி வருகிறது. மாநிலம் முழுவதும் அறிவியல் கல்வியை மேம்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்ப காட்சிப்பொருட்கள், முன்மாதிரி செயல்விளக்க கருவிகள், அறிவியல் கற்பித்தல் உபகரணங்களை வடிவமைத்து, உருவாக்கி, தயாரிப்பது இம்மையத்தின் நோக்கமாகும்.

தேசிய அறிவியல் அருங்காட்சியகங்கள் கவுன்சிலால் (NCSM), தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் TNSTC-யின் தீவிர ஆதரவுடன் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட இம்மையம், 2013 ஜூலை 13-ஆம் தேதி, இந்திய அரசின் அன்றைய பண்பாட்டுத் துறை மத்திய அமைச்சர் திருமதி சந்திரேஷ் குமாரி காட்சுக் அவர்களால் தமிழக மக்களுக்கு முறையாக அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்நிகழ்வில் NCSM ஆளுங்குழு தலைவர் டாக்டர் R.C. சோப்தி மற்றும் கோயம்புத்தூர் மாநிலங்களவை உறுப்பினர் திரு. P.R. நடராஜன் ஆகியோர் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

4,000 சதுர மீட்டர் கட்டப்பட்ட பரப்பளவில் அமைந்துள்ள இம்மையத்தில் ஐவுளி அரங்கம், பொருட்கள் வேலை செய்யும் விதம், கேளிக்கை அறிவியல் ஆகிய மூன்று நிரந்தர காட்சியகங்களும், ஒரு தற்காலிக கண்காட்சி அரங்கமும் உள்ளன. 3D திரைப்பட காட்சி, முழு அரங்க டிஜிட்டல் கோளரங்கம், ஒலி-ஒளி உபகரணங்களுடன் கூடிய குளிர்சாதன கேட்போர் கூடம், அறிவியல் செயல்விளக்க மூலை, குழந்தைகள் செயல்பாட்டு மூலை, நூலகம், வானம் பார்க்க தொலைநோக்கி உள்ளிட்ட வசதிகள் மாணவர்கள், குடும்பங்கள் மற்றும் அறிவியல் ஆர்வலர்களுக்கு ஒரு முழு நாள் சுற்றுலா தலமாக இம்மையத்தை மாற்றுகின்றன.

Entrance Archway (EN): Step through a striking carved wooden archway — reliefs of palm-tapping, spinning and traditional weaving frame the entrance — into the Hall of Textile gallery. நுழைவாயில் (TA): பனை ஏறுதல், நூல் நூற்றல், பாரம்பரிய நெசவு காட்சிகளுடன் செதுக்கப்பட்ட மரக் கதவு வழியாக ஐவுளி அரங்கம் காட்சியகத்திற்குள் நுழையலாம்.

Costumes of Indian Classical Dances (EN): A rotating glass display presenting the costumes of India’s classical dance forms, with a lit figure in traditional Bharatanatyam attire at its centre and a ring of viewing screens cycling through other dance styles. இந்திய பாரம்பரிய நடன உடைகள் (TA): இந்தியாவின் பல்வேறு பாரம்பரிய நடன வடிவங்களின் உடைகளை காட்டும் சுழலும் கண்ணாடி காட்சிப்பெட்டி; நடுவில் பரதநாட்டிய உடையணிந்த உருவமும், சுற்றிலும் பிற நடன வடிவங்களைக் காட்டும் திரைகளும் உள்ளன.

Entrance Mural (EN): A bold bilingual entrance — rockets, gears, clockwork and DNA helices painted across the doorway — leads into a gallery built entirely around mechanisms: levers, gears, cams, wheels and axles. நுழைவாயில் ஓவியம் (TA): ராக்கெட், கியர்கள், கடிகார பொறிமுறைகள், DNA சுழற்சிகள் வரையப்பட்ட இருமொழி நுழைவாயில், லீவர், கியர், கேம், சக்கரம்-அச்சு போன்ற இயங்குமுறைகளை மையமாகக் கொண்ட காட்சியகத்திற்கு வழிநடத்துகிறது.

Aircraft Engine (EN): A genuine 1933 radial aircraft engine — a 14-cylinder Cyclone 14 R-2600 built by the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Company — displayed alongside panels on Wheel & Axle, Levers, Inclined Plane, Cam Mechanism, and Gears. Newton’s Cradle (EN): The classic momentum-and-energy-conservation demonstration, displayed beside a wave-motion ball track — a simple, satisfying exhibit that makes physics visible in seconds. நியூட்டனின் தொட்டில் (TA): உந்தம் மற்றும் ஆற்றல் பாதுகாப்பு விதியை விளக்கும் பிரபலமான காட்சிப்பொருள்; அலை-இயக்க பந்து பாதையுடன் அருகருகே வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது — சில நொடிகளில் இயற்பியலை கண்முன் காட்டும் எளிய காட்சிப்பொருள்.

Miniature Nuclear Gallery (NPCIL) / சிறு அணுசக்தி காட்சியகம்

English: Sponsored by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), this jungle-themed diorama — complete with a life-size tiger and deer model — explains nuclear power’s peaceful role in the nation’s energy supply through illustrated panels, under NPCIL’s motto “Atoms in the Service of the Nation.” Tamil: இந்திய அணுசக்தி மின்சார கழகத்தால் (NPCIL) வழங்கப்பட்ட இந்த காடு-தீம் அமைப்பு — உண்மை அளவிலான புலி மற்றும் மான் மாதிரிகளுடன் — நாட்டின் ஆற்றல் தேவைக்கு அணுசக்தியின் அமைதியான பங்களிப்பை படக்காட்சி பலகைகள் மூலம் விளக்குகிறது. “தேசத்தின் சேவையில் அணுக்கள்” என்பது NPCIL-ன் குறிக்கோள்.

Astronomy / Telescope Gallery / வானியல் காட்சியகம்

English: A dedicated exhibition hall tracing the story of the telescope — from Galileo’s first observations (“On Giant’s Shoulder,” “Instrument That Changed the World”) through modern instruments (“Einstein’s Telescope,” “Probing the Universe”) to the frontier of dark matter research (“Weighing the Universe”). It pairs naturally with a Taramandal show and a look through the Centre’s own sky-observation telescope.
