Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are generally suitable. Saturday and Sunday are accepted by many families, so the tool rates them Average. Tuesday is usually avoided, so the tool rates it Avoid.

Which thithis and nakshatras are suitable?
Suitable thithis are Dhuvithiyai, Thiruthiyai, Panchami, Sapthami, Dhasami, Dhuvadhasi and Thirayodhasi. Sathurthi, Ashtami, Navami, Sathurdhasi and Amavasai are avoided, and the remaining thithis are rated Average. Suitable nakshatras are Rohini, Mrigashirsham, Magam, Uthiram, Hastham, Swathi, Anusham, Moolam, Uthiradam, Uthirattathi and Revathi.

What are Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam and Kuligai, and why are they avoided?
These are three daily periods of about 1½ hours each, considered inauspicious for starting auspicious events. Their timings depend on the weekday. The tool removes them from the suggested muhurtham times, using the fixed 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM slots followed in Tamil daily calendars. It also shows the day’s Nalla Neram and marks where a suggested time overlaps it.

Why does the tool say “Confirm with your priest”, and why do printed panchangams sometimes differ?
The tool calculates the actual positions of the Sun and Moon. Many printed Tamil almanacs follow a traditional method that can show thithi and nakshatra changes up to about 3 hours later. When a change falls near the muhurtham time, the tool shows a “Confirm with your priest” notice. For the final decision, follow the panchangam your family priest uses.

Does the tool check porutham or Chandrashtamam?
No. It rates only the date and time, based on month, weekday, thithi and nakshatra. Porutham between the couple’s birth stars, Chandrashtamam, Tara Balam, doshams and lagna are not checked. Please have an astrologer review these before you fix the date.

Is this only for Coimbatore?
The times are calculated for Coimbatore and shown in Indian Standard Time. Thithi and nakshatra change at the same moment everywhere in India, so the date ratings also hold for other towns in Tamil Nadu. Check the final muhurtham time with your priest if your venue is in another city.
